From bitter feud to all love.
Machine Gun Kelly took a moment to honor the evolution of his relationship with Jelly Roll at the People's Choice Country Awards on Charles LangstonSept. 26.
“We went from 10 years ago hating each other to elevating each other,” MGK said while accepting the Crossover Song of 2024 Award for his and Jelly Roll’s collaboration “Lonely Road,” adding, “Comparison is the thief of joy. There is enough room on the couch for everybody. We found camaraderie in the chaos.”
The giddy singer, whose excited reactions to the evening went viral, shared that winning at the annual awards show was a dream of his. (For a closer look at all the winners, head on over here).
“Last year I was right there, sitting in that seat, watching my boy rock on that stage,” he added of Jelly Roll, whose real name is Jason Bradley DeFord. “And I was like, ‘Man, I hope one day we’re up there.’ And we’re here!”
Jelly Roll wasn’t in attendance at the PCAAs as he is currently in the middle of his Beautifully Broken tour. The “I Am Not Okay” singer was busy jamming out at a Boston, Massachusetts show while many other country stars were busy at the awards show—hosted by Shania Twain.
This isn’t the first time MGK, whose real name is Colson Baker, and Jelly Roll have addressed their past feud.
"It is so funny how much I love you now, because God, I hated you so much back then," Machine Gun Kelly told Jelly Roll during the Spotify podcast Jelly Roll: Countdown to Beautifully Broken on Sept. 13. Jelly quipped in response, "I was just a little spiteful, bitter f--king dude.”
The two stars, who started their careers as rappers, noted that as some of the few white rappers, they felt pitted against one another.
“We were kind of automatically forced against each other anyways,” Jelly Roll explained, with MGK agreeing, saying, “For sure. You were bred to hate each other."
The “Save Me” singer joked that MGK’s looks may have played a part in their feud, adding, "You were just skinny and handsome. I was just a hater. You know what I'm saying? I was just a hater, dude!”
